Notes from the Importer: This former 17th century hunting lodge was built by the Duke of Choiseul. His château was situated where the Chanteloup Pagoda now stands in the hills above Amboise. (Approximately 4 miles (7km) away).
In those days the forest, which was full of wild game, bordered the house.
It was during the 19th century, around 1850, that the house, by then in a state of neglect, came into the Moyer family who restored it between 1877 and 1903. During the reconstruction they took the opportunity to build a new barn incorporating a cattle shed and stables. These have been recently renovated to create a new tasting room, office and wine store.
The Moyer family have been continuously producing wine from father to son since at least 1850. The present generation of the family, Damien and Michaël, continues the tradition of producing fine wines, the quality of which is respected and recognised amongst their peers. Their wines reveal an unparalleled knowledge and understanding of the Montlouis ‘terroir.’
Damien and Michaël are the sons of Dominique and grandsons of Edmond, who witnessed the creation of the National Institute for Appellations d’Origine (INAO) and was one of the founder wine producers of the Montlouis AOC in 1938.
