Notes from the Importer: A rich, textured Pinot Noir that we can truly sink our teeth into! Domaine Derain has been a biodynamic leader in Burgundy for decades, now helmed by Julien Altaber after the retirement of the Domaine’s namesake. Altaber made his first wines in Derain’s cellar, from which he launched his own label – Sextant – and gained a reputation for his vivid, imaginative take on Burgundy. Sourced from the tiny 0.5 hectare Les Riaux vineyard, the grapes are mostly destemmed before being aged for six months in old oak and bottled without fining or filtration. Luminescent dark berry fruit leads into summer bramble, turned earth & a whiff of flint with a big, juicy mouthfeel and slightly wooden tannins.
