Notes from the Importer: Eduardo acquired this beautiful half-hectare parcel of ungrafted (hence piedi franco on label), mixed-variety, very old alberello vines in the contrada (district) of Nave on the north face of Mt. Etna in 2018. He is in the process of restoring these widely spaced, fragile, 80-100-year-old bushes and farming them organically. The vineyard is surrounded by ancient stone walls and features very rocky, sandy volcanic soils. The name "Quota N" pinpoints the parcel quite literally: the tiny dirt road running by is called the Strada Quota Nave. Eduardo was not permitted to use the full word "Nave" because its 1070-meter altitude exceeds the limits of the DOC. That elevation makes this parcel the very last of Acosta's to be harvested, generally around the 3rd week of October.
