Notes from the Importer: Maison Gautheron d’Anost is a young and promising winery located in Couchey, Burgundy. Founded in 2020 by Bastien Gautheron, the estate follows a non-interventionist approach to winemaking, emphasizing the connection between terroir and vineyard. He started his career at Olivier Leflaive, the famous house in Puligny Montrachet. Bastien began vinifying family plots in the cellars of Pierre-Henri Rougeot in Meursault, and is now working on flipping a former powder house into his own cellar in the center of Dijon, which will eventually be the very first urban winery there. Born in Dijon, he truly believes in the renaissance of this appellation and eventually plans to have 4 ha of vines within. Currently, about 20% of the grapes are coming from his own organically farmed vineyards in Savigny and Hautes Cotes de Beaune, with the rest coming from trusted winegrowers (mainly friends of Bastien), who work in organic or assimilated organic viticulture. He favors simple vinifications, with relatively short macerations and fermentations to not over-extract. All the wines are aged in barrels, the oldest are from 2014. The whites are partly aged in large wooden vats of 350L whilst the reds see exclusively barriques with a tiny amount of new oak presence for the top-of-the-range wines (less than 30% in all cases). His focus is on fruit purity and freshness, a hallmark of the younger generation of Burgundian stars.

This Aligoté is new to the range and comes from a very high-quality plot in Marsannay which Bastien is in the process of acquiring. This is a discreet but approachable Aligoté with delicate notes of apricot, nectarine and citrus peel. The palate is slightly reductive but has a good creamy texture and a mixture of citrus fruits. The acidity is well balanced.
