Notes from the Importer: The Orangerie is a half-hectare plot, located at the top of the hill of Beru. The clos, whose walls are built from the old ramparts of the castle, is located on an island of clay, spread on top of the bedrock dating from the Kimmeridgian. Protected from the wind and facing South, the Clos de l’Orangerie enjoys a special micro-climate which makes this garden a jewel in its setting.

Located in the heart of Beru, southeast of Chablis, Château de Beru is a historic wine estate with over 400 years of tradition. The Beru family has carefully preserved this château for generations.

In the early 20th century, the vineyards were abandoned due to the phylloxera crisis, but in the 1980s, Eric de Beru replanted them, bringing new life to the estate. In 2006, his daughter Athénaïs took over, introducing more natural approach. Since 2011, she has practiced biodynamic farming, helping each vineyard plot keep its balance and fully express its unique character of terroirs.

The 15-hectare estate stretches over rolling hills, offering stunning views of the château. Among its vineyards, the monopole “Clos Beru” is particularly special. Sitting at about 350 meters above sea level, this vineyard enjoys a cool climate and large temperature shifts between day and night, which give the grapes their distinctive and complex flavors.

To bring out the best in each vintage, Château de Beru carefully chooses the harvest time, pressing method, and fermentation style. The wines are made without additives, using wild yeasts, and aged for 12 to 18 months to develop their flavors naturally. Since 2012, some cuvées have been bottled without sulfites.

Every bottle from Château de Beru reflects true craftsmanship, from careful grape selection to final bottling. Even in their négociant label, “Athénaïs de Beru”, they apply the same attention to detail, studying each vintage to express the terroir as accurately as possible.

By combining centuries of tradition with modern innovation, Château de Beru creates wines that capture the true spirit of Chablis. Each sip tells a story of Burgundy’s rich culture and nature, offering a taste of history with a fresh, vibrant soul.
