Notes from the Importer: Et Pourtant... comes from Chardonnay grapes whose vines are about 70 years old, grown on clay-limestone soil. Harvesting is done manually and the grapes are pressed slowly. The wine is matured on the fine lees for 12 months in oak barrels that have contained 3 to 5 different wines, before being transferred to tanks for a further 18 months.
The Cuvée 'Et Pourtant' from Maison Valette is a white wine from the Viré-Clessé appellation. The grapes come from vineyards located in Chaintré, on the border between the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions, which benefit from a clay-rich white limestone soil. 'Et Pourtant...' takes its name from a revealing anecdote. Initially rejected by the AOC Viré-Clessé approval committee because it was atypical, this cuvée was initially marketed as 'Je suis Viré'. Following regulatory constraints, it was renamed 'Et Pourtant...', underlining the paradox of an exceptional wine not recognised by the appellation.
