Notes from the Importer: Aged just 32, Pierre’s winemaking journey started only a few years ago when he returned home to recover a parcel of vines after the passing of his grandfather. Based in the small village of Husseren-les-Châteaux that sits at one of the highest elevations in Alsace, he works just under 4 hectares of vines scattered down the steep slopes close to his home. Although you will see no reference to it on his labels, almost half of these vineyards, planted on a varying mix of clay and limestone, are classed as Grand Cru.

Pierre was working as an environmental engineer in Paris for a number of years, and so with health for the soil and the environment already a passion, his ambition was to work with as few chemicals in the vineyard as possible, instead employing the use of all manner of biodynamic treatments, teas and essential oils to remedy any illness in the vines. In the cellar, he opts for gentle macerations of both red and white grapes to tempt the aromatics out of some of the more austere varieties. Most of the wines see élevage in barrique and there are no additions at any stage.

In just his second full vintage Pierre is producing some incredible wines that are delicately structured, perfumed and brimming with energy. The wines from 2020 show wonderful balance and although they are drinking very well now, we think they hold a great potential for aging
