Notes from the Importer: Tamara Kögl is a third-generation vigneron who manages her family’s 11-hectare estate perched on the steep slopes of Ratsch an der Weinstraße, right on the Austrian-Slovenian border. After taking the reins from her mother, Tamara transitioned the entire property to organic farming in 2016 and achieved prestigious biodynamic certification in 2020. She approaches her vineyards as a holistic ecosystem—integrating wooded areas, a pond, and a paddock of sheep alongside her vines to foster natural biodiversity.

As a cellar master for over 15 years, Tamara relies on a blend of spiritual anthroposophy, intuition, and scientific understanding to guide her craft. Rather than forcing a uniform style every year, she adapts her non-invasive cellar work on a case-by-case basis to mirror the specific weather and harvest conditions of the vintage. Beyond crafting structured, mineral-driven "mountain wines", she also experiments heavily with skin-contact orange wines and unfiltered Pet-Nats, while running a traditional Buschenschank (wine tavern) and bed-and-breakfast right on the vineyard grounds.
