Grapes: Sumoll

Region: Penedès, Catalonia, Spain

Vintage: 2025

Viticulture: Organic

Soils: calcareous-pebbles and clay soil

Vinification: C arefully vinified for both lightness and layers. Grapes are hand-harvested with 98% de-stemmed and macerated for 4 days in a stainless steel tank, with punch-downs and pump-overs 3-4 times per day to extract color and aroma. Pressed right at the start of fermentation (ambient yeast only), the wine is then combined with the 2% of grapes that were macerated whole-cluster to complete fermentation. The finished wine ages 1 month in concrete followed by 6 months in steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with nothing added.

Aging: 5 months in steel

Fining or Filtering: None

Sulfur: None added

Notes from the Producer: How amazing it is to enjoy something so tasty but at the same time light and fresh! This wine wants to challenge; to explain that Sumoll is not just a rustic grape with a big acidity and hard tannins. This grape is telling us that it doesn’t want to be vinified under traditional red wine making… that it has the best tools to express incredible aromatics, texture and freshness. This is the Mediterranean

Notes from the Importer: Ferran Lacruz farms 8 hectares of vines in Catalonia, in the small village of Sant Marti Sarroca, in the heart of the Penedès wine region. Ferran started this project with his first vintage of 2018. He works completely outside of any appellation, farms the grapes organically, and is not adding anything to any of the wines. All the grapes are hand-harvested, and nothing is filtered or fined. Ferran grew up in this part of Catalonia, and since being a small child was seduced by the landscape, natural beauty, and the important of wine producing in the culture. He studied tourism in college, which left him feeling unfulfilled. So, with a friend, he began to embark on the journey of becoming a winemaker, looking to produce clean natural wines that express his homeland with honesty.

Personality: This bright-red wine could be called a dark rosé,  expressive with a floral nose and electric red fruit. Juicy, wild, and chillable, without lacking in texture or structure.
