Notes from the Importer:  Podrum Franjo is a low-intervention boutique winery in Croatia’s cool-climate Plešivica region, founded by New York-based sommelier and importer Krešo Petreković. Inspired by the pure, unadulterated "farmer wines" his father used to make for family consumption, Petreković returned home to revitalize ancient, organic vineyards boasting vines between 40 and 100 years old. Focusing heavily on indigenous and Central European grape varieties—like Plavec, Kraljevina, and Sauvignon Blanc—the estate champions a minimalist, raw approach to winemaking. Every bottling is crafted with hand-harvested fruit, spontaneous wild-yeast fermentations, and extended skin contact for the whites, resulting in highly textured, living orange wines that are bottled entirely unfined, unfiltered, and with little to no added sulfur.
